note about inquiring for a commission

Jasu Wonder World JWW Articles 19 July 2023

When inquiring about commissioning artwork, it is important to consider the following aspects:

  1. Budget: Do you have a specific budget in mind for the commission? Sharing your budget with the artist can greatly assist them in determining the type of commission they can create for you.
  2. Size: What size would you like the commissioned artwork to be? The size and level of detail in the artwork have the greatest impact on the final price.
  3. Subject and Elements: What is the subject of the artwork? What elements would you like to be included? You can either allow the artist to decide the subject or certain aspects of it. If there are any specific details that are important to you, always remember to communicate them to the artist.
  4. Technique: Which technique would you like the artist to employ in creating your commission? Options include watercolors, pencils, colored pencils, or digital media.
  5. Reference Photos: If a photo reference is necessary for the commission, the provided picture should be of sufficient quality and size. The artist will not accept reference photos that are small or blurry.

By considering these aspects and effectively communicating your preferences to the artist, you can ensure a smooth and successful commissioning process.

Additional important information about commissioning:

  1. Payment: Half of the final price of the commission must be paid before the artist starts working on the piece.
  2. Pricing: The commission price includes the artwork itself but does not include any frames.
  3. Conditions of the Commission: When commissioning the artist, the client agrees to the specific conditions of the commission, which may vary depending on the type of commission. The conditions are sent to each client and must be accepted before the artist begins working.

About watercolor painting

Jasu Wonder World JWW Articles 19 July 2023

Watercolor painting is a technique of creating artwork using pigments suspended in water. It is a versatile and transparent medium that allows artists to achieve a wide range of effects, from delicate washes to bold and vibrant colors. Watercolor paints are typically made from pigments mixed with a water-soluble binder, such as gum arabic, which allows the paint to be easily diluted and spread on paper or other absorbent surfaces.

The unique characteristic of watercolor lies in its transparency and the ability to build up layers of colors to create depth and texture. Artists often use various brushes, sponges, or even spray bottles to apply the paint onto the paper. By controlling the amount of water and paint on the brush, artists can achieve different levels of intensity and create a range of effects, including blending, gradation, and soft edges.

Watercolor is known for its spontaneity and fluidity, as the paint can be manipulated and moved on the paper even after it has been applied. This allows for a certain level of unpredictability and lends a fresh and vibrant quality to the artwork.

Watercolor paintings can be created on different types of paper, such as cold-pressed, hot-pressed, or rough paper, each with its own unique texture and absorbency. The choice of paper can affect the overall appearance and characteristics of the final artwork.

Watercolor painting has a long history and has been used by artists for centuries to create landscapes, portraits, still life, and various other subjects. It continues to be a popular medium among artists due to its versatility and expressive possibilities.
