Desucon Frostbite 2017

feature10

At the end of January I travelled to Lahti to attend Desucon Frostbite. Of course, as the purpose was for me to sell my products there, I had to take all of them with me (In the image above you can see my working space while I was preparing for this event). With a heavy backpack and a suitcase I travelled all day by taxi, by train and finally the last couple of kilometers by feet. Of course I could've taken a taxi for those kilometers, but I was so fed up with sitting still all day that even with the great weight on my shoulders I wanted to walk.

Walking in the city centre I soon noticed people staring at me. As I glanced at the window of a store I was passing by, seeing my own reflection it was not a mystery to me why I was getting all that attention: It literally looked like I was carrying all my belongings with me, almost like a snail. I found this very amusing and for the rest of the way I entertained myself imagining that I was a popular celebrity and people were looking at me because they couldn't believe it was actually me: Jasu the Artist.

The picture on the right: Going to Lahti, my backpack was so big it didn't fit even into the large lockers in the train, nor on the shelf meant for luggage above the seats. Thus it got its own seat until the train got so full I had to move it to the floor.

Arriving to the convention place, Sibelius hall, I got a VIP patch that gave me an access to the sales hall to go prepare my table. To me this was immensely exciting. Years ago I had attended Descon many times but always as a "fangirl", one of the visitors. Now however I got to see what was happening behind the scenes and so I spent some time just looking around, thrilled to see all the big companies build their huge selling spots. Then there was me, an excited artist to be there with her one small table and a very big heart.

Pictures below: The front view of my table and the mess on the back of my table.

Desucon Frostbite was the biggest event I had attended with my products so far and I had my new record sales there. During the sales I was so happy to interact with the people and just overall excited about everything that was happening that I was totally exhausted in the evenings when the sales hall closed and it was time to rest. I believe this was one of the reasons that I slept my first night so incredibly well despite laying on a cold, hard floor of a class room (I had a sleeping back though). The second night I spent in a hotel and having a clean bed and a shower made me feel like a queen. To treat myself like one I even took myself out for a dinner that evening. The third night I spent on a train, laying on two combined seats.

Pictures below: 1. My bed on the first night. 2.My actual bed on the second night. 3. Leaving Lahti, my backpack had clearly lost some of its content and I looked less like a slug and more like a girl with a big backpack.
